If one were able to somehow distill the spirit of Jimmy Smith, George Benson, Grant Green, and Soullive into a secret sauce that was pressed onto vinyl and then blasted through a Leslie cabinet, it might sound a little something like Athens’s newest soul jazz supergroup “The Four Fathers.” Its members have graced the stage with mainstays like Funk Brotherhood, Allgood, Liquid Dynamite, Squat, JazzChronic, Bernie Worrell, and the Hot Hotty Hots, and this diversity of experience is the catalyst behind the group’s performing style. Comprised of local and regional scene veterans Dwayne Holloway, Jason Ogg, Chris Queen, and Justin Willis, the Four Fathers promise to treat the audience to an evening of music that offers both familiarity and novelty.
